Turn it up high and you’ll achieve that infamous violin-like sustain that the Big Muff Pi is renowned for, producing a bloated fuzzy sound that is perfect for leads. Keep the control low, and it’ll deliver a more choppy and gated style distortion, which is more suited to rhythm playing and single-note riffs. This was Jimi’s favourite in 69 (a great number in Muff Land)

There’s also more than meets the eye with the Tone knob too. Essentially a treble control, depending on where it’s positioned you can start to hear interesting sub-harmonic frequencies coming through, akin to an octavia pedal. So whether you like to keep your top-end tone tame or searing, this single control can take you from subtle to extreme.
